Public Address Announcer ( U Sports )

Reporting to the Events Coordinators, staff are responsible for delivering live in-venue announcements at basketball, volleyball, hockey, swimming, soccer, and football games held at University of Toronto athletic facilities.

Announcers serve as the voice of the Varsity Blues, delivering game scripts, opening protocols, player introductions, sponsor messaging, promotions, and other event-related announcements. This is not a play-by-play commentary role, but rather a game. Staff are expected to arrive early for sound checks, review game scripts, work collaboratively with event staff, and adapt to the fast-paced nature of live sporting events. Opportunities may also be available to announce at OUA Championships, U SPORTS National Championships, and other special events.

Shifts typically range from 4 to 6 hours in length, and staff must be available for a minimum of 70% of scheduled games throughout the season. Availability for evening and weekend games, along with strong attention to detail, is essential.

Prior experience in sport operations, broadcast, or announcing is an asset.

Education:

• Current University of Toronto students are preferred; however, all qualified applicants will be considered

Experience:

• Previous experience working in sport, events, recreation, customer service, or game operations is considered an asset
• Knowledge of basketball, volleyball, hockey, soccer, football, swimming, or other varsity sports is considered an asset
• Previous experience in announcing, emceeing, public speaking, broadcasting, game presentation, customer service, sport, or event operations is considered an asset

Expectations

• Availability for a minimum of 70% of scheduled home games throughout the season
• Availability to work evenings and weekends
• Attendance at mandatory training sessions
