The Matchday Public Announcer is the voice of Roots Hall – welcoming fans, building
atmosphere, and keeping supporters informed throughout the game.

This is a highly visible volunteer role suited to a confident communicator who thrives under the
spotlight and has a passion for Southend United.

 

Key Responsibilities
• Deliver pre-match, half-time, and full-time announcements including team line
ups, sponsors, and club messaging
• Announce goals, substitutions, bookings, and other key match information
promptly and accurately
• Lead crowd engagement moments (competitions, shout-outs, birthday
messages, sponsor mentions) to build atmosphere
• Liaise with the matchday operations team, PA/sound engineer, and
mascot/entertainment team to ensure smooth running of the entertainment
schedule
• Read out official club statements, safety announcements, and stadium
information as required
• Maintain a professional tone at all times
• Attend a pre-match briefing with the matchday team ahead of kick-off
What We’re Looking For
• A clear, confident, and engaging speaking voice
• Previous experience in broadcasting, presenting, DJing, or public speaking is
desirable but not essential
• Good knowledge of football and an understanding of matchday etiquette
• Ability to think on your feet and adapt announcements in real time
• Reliable and able to commit to home fixtures throughout the season
• Comfortable using PA/sound equipment (training provided)
