You have never applied for a job like this one. It’s hard to have more fun than this and get paid. If you are sitting at work clicking at job postings, please do not apply here. This job is real work for real people and real return on your personal investment. We make people happy, we have fun on the job, and we take on the responsibility of making that happen.
Please read this whole job description. Our recruitment process takes some time. Thank you for being patient. We usually get more than 1500 applications each year and it takes time to read them all. We do read them all.
Here we go:
1. Google, “All-Alaskan Racing Pigs.” Verify that we are real, legit, and good at what we do.
2. Decide whether you can hop on one of our motorhomes and live there for the next 4-8 months.
3. Imagine yourself as the front person for eight little piglets, introducing the show to a crowd of 50 people, sometimes 2000 people. Just you on a headset mic telling funny pig puns and dad jokes and having fun with a very appreciative crowd. Does that work for you?
4. Imagine that you drove five hours to get here, went to the laundry, grocery shopping, and spent an hour setting up the motorhome to live in at the fairgrounds for the next two weeks. Then you spent the next day setting up the show in 90-degree heat. Then the next day you finally got to perform shows. Does that work for you?
This is the most fun you can have on a job. With all the fun and excitement comes responsibility. Your boss is not around, so are the boss. And you have to make things happen.
Important:
- You will live on the road. No trips home on weekends. You are gone for the full season. You will have plenty of time off, but rarely time to go home. (Make your friends visit you. They’ll be envious.)
- You will do physical work. The two-person team sets up the show and takes down the show for each event. You will work up a sweat. It’s warm in the summer, so you will work up a sweat performing the shows as well. You will get a modest amount of physical activity even on the least physical days.
- You will have real responsibilities. You will handle cash and must account for it. You will have animals to care for. You will have crowds up to 2000 people cheering and laughing with you. You must and and
- If you are up to this challenge, you will be rewarded handsomely in many ways.
Some basics:
- You will work closely with animals. This involves petting and playing with the pigs. Taking care of them also involves a shovel. You will use a shovel.
- You announce for up to 2000 people and be the front person for the pigs and pedal pulls — The Golden Voice!
- Perform from 3 to 6 shows each day, 20 minutes per show.
- Perform shows from 1 to 7 days per week depending on the event.
- Sell merchandise after each show, handle money, run credit card transactions, and keep records of daily sales and expenses.
- Share a motorhome with another team member. A usual team is two announcers.
- Drive the motorhome and pull a trailer, about 55-feet of vehicle total.
- Lift and carry up to 40 lbs. occasionally.
- Work outdoors, in heat or after dark, setting up and staying busy for 6-8 hours for each set up. (It gets faster as you learn the process.)
- Once you start working you will be “on the road” almost continuously until September or October.
- Jobs will be filled starting in February and continuing into August.
- Pets are not compatible with this job.
- Smoking/Vaping is prohibited on most event sites and in our motorhomes and shows. Our motorhomes will be parked on the event site for the duration of the event.
Are you, or can you become, a performer?
This is the REAL THING, and it is all about your attitude. If you see yourself doing this and are willing to work at it, you can do it! You do not need experience as a performer, just the desire to become one. If you are a performer, you have a head start.
You will have to learn a 20-minute script word-for-word. At first that is your script, but after you have that down we will work with you to add new material and make the show fit your style and personality.
Who can do this job?
There is no profile. Some great employees had no prior performing experience. Attitude is everything. If you have performing and management skills you have an advantage, but people of all colors, genders, and other identities have excelled at this. Teenagers, retired people, all ages in between have been stars. Existing skills matter less than a desire to do it well. If you are coachable and willing to work at it, we can make you good at this. Many of our announcers never performed in front of a live crowd before doing this gig. We know how to help you succeed and will give you our full attention and energy. Plainly stated: We welcome everyone who is a good performer, employee, and teammate.
Announcers earn a salary, bonus, and commission. First-year employees will earn at least $4,500 per month in total for all three and can make up to $7,000 per month total if they work a full season and do good work. We want people who are worth the top end. The work can be seasonal or year-round. We especially look for employees who want to work the off-season in marketing, recruiting, equipment maintenance and repair, show development, and “whatever needs to be done.” Year-round employees enjoy extra-generous paid vacation breaks.
*Use the keyword “Pigracer” in the application when you get to that question.
