Job Summary/Basic Function:

To act as the primary play-by-play voice for Mountain West Network broadcasts, as well as Boise State women’s basketball radio play-by-play.  In addition to play-by-play responsibilities, this position will act as a production assistant, helping produce content at the direction of the Director of Live Production. This position will also serve as a host for new media, such as podcasts, live shows, etc.

Level Scope:Applies skills and job knowledge in area of specialization; may adapt procedures, operations, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet needs of area of specialization; may work on non-routine tasks; resolves issues/makes working decisions within area of specialization or responsibility with minimal supervision.
Essential Functions:
  • Serve as primary play-by-play voice for Mountain West Network (MWN) broadcasts of Boise State Olympic Sports and as women’s basketball voice on radio.
  • Develop quality relationships with coaching staff and players to enhance on-air storytelling ability.
  • Host various shows, such as podcasting and live shows, that help grow storytelling vehicles for Boise State Athletics.
  • Review and critique a variety of programming throughout the MWN at other institutions and make recommendations on potential areas of improvement.
  • Assist the Director of Live Production on pre-production elements and coordinates production meetings.
  • Assist in the set-up and teardown of live broadcasting equipment at multiple venues.
  • Assist in execution of specialty shoots that may be utilized on broadcasts.
  • Fill-In for football and men’s basketball radio voice when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Play-By-Play Broadcasting: Serve as primary voice for numerous Olympic sports with Boise State Athletics in both radio and television capacities.
  • Pre-Production/Video Editing: Developing pre-produced video and graphic content and storylines to highlight in broadcasts.
  • Media hosting: Serve as a host for Boise State’s new media, including podcasts and live shows.
Minimum Qualifications:Experience: utilizing production methods and broadcast techniques in assembling live and taped radio programs; operating transmitters and transmitter remote controls, modulation monitors, or EAS; operating the following audio technical-board equipment: mixer, timers, tape decks, turntables, CD players, cart machines, network feeds, RDATs or digital audio workstations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communication/Broadcasting or relevant field.
  • Two (2) – three (3) years’ experience as play-by-play announcer in four (4) or more sports.
  • Experience in the set-up and tear down of live sports broadcasts.
  • Experience in putting together graphics and video elements for live broadcasts.
  • Experience hosting podcasts.
