NCAA Division II

The Public Address Announcer for Athletics is a part-time hourly position who reports to the Director of Athletic Events and Facilities. Westminster University is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA II). This role supports student success by promoting intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the university learning environment and supporting the success and experience of student-athletes. The position is seasonal (e.g., August to May).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the voice of the Westminster University Athletics teams (e.g., could include soccer, volleyball, basketball and lacrosse), providing live, clear, and accurate announcements throughout home games.  Home events run August to early May.
  • Introduce starting lineups, announce substitutions, in-game promotions, and provide updates on game situations such as fouls, timeouts, and scores.
  • Work closely with game day experience and operations staff.
  • Have familiarity with the team roster prior to the season.
  • Entertain while delivering important information in tight timelines, with smooth transitions between elements.
  • Multi-task, work under pressure, and remain calm and on-brand in all situations.
  • Provide ad-libbing and react to an energetic atmosphere.
  • A strong vocal talent.
  • Experience communicating with audiences in a live event setting.
  • Availability to work all home men’s and women’s soccer and lacrosse games as well as women’s volleyball matches including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Compliance with institutional, conference and national governing regulations
  • Perform all responsibilities with the highest ethical standards consistent with the University’s mission, vision and values which include diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Perform other duties as assigned

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS – Schedule outside normal business hours. This position requires an irregular work schedule including days, nights, and weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience announcing athletic events at the collegiate or high school level preferred.
  • Motivated, self-starter with strong verbal communication skills and professional approach to game days.
  • Ability to take constructive feedback and direction.
  • Knowledge of the NCAA II and RMAC sports rules.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal and public relation communication skills
  • Commitment to high professional standards
  • Hourly payment for services rendered will be $35.00 per hour.
